Overview
Malaysia’s Toy Safety Regulations 1997 mandate that toys intended for children under 14 years of age are safe for their intended and reasonably foreseeable use. The regulations are aligned with the MS ISO 8124 series, which covers mechanical and physical properties, flammability, chemical properties, and finger toys.
KPDN (Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Kos Sara Hidup) enforces these requirements at the point of import and retail. Products that fail to meet the requirements are subject to recall, seizure, or import ban. A SIRIM product certification mark is strongly recommended and is often treated as the practical demonstration of compliance by enforcement officers.
